barn  Another thing about us is that we try to be a 'fun' company. Now, this doesn't mean that we slack off or have ping pong tables set up in our office or anything like that - it just means that we would like you to have a pleasurable, and hopefully memorable, experience with us - be it when you visit our website, or when you actually deal with us in person. This is especially important to us, because a lot of our business comes by word-of-mouth from our past customers.

Now for some more of the "history" of our company. MIAD was started several years ago by DustinCropsBoy. He is portrayed by the li'l grasshopper boy you see scattered throughout this website. He has over 15 years experience with graphic design and is quite a stickler on making stuff look good. He went to school for commercial art many, many years ago, but has learned most all he knows from years of figuring stuff out on his own. He thinks that because he doesn't really follow "the rules" set forth by teachers or instructional books or classes - he has better developed his own unique and distinctive style. At least he's been told that he has a distinct style, though he doesn't really 'know' what that style really is right now. He also, apparently, likes referring to himself in the 3rd person.

So anyway... several years ago, DCB was designing t-shirts for friends and online groups that he belonged to. He would have these shirts printed up at a local print shop in town and then sell them for a few bucks more. It was a pretty swell deal - that was until his shirts became more popular and he figured out that the printers were making more money from his projects than he was. After landing a pretty big order from a local clothing store chain, he decided he might be better off if he bought his own printing equipment and keep more of the profit for himself. He had worked for a silk screener years before and figured since he knew the basics of screen printing and was pretty knowledgable with graphics - he could easily do this. He was right.

A few years had gone by and he had scored a few jobs here and there. Most of these were from his online friends. It was slow and not all that steady but it made him some money. Around this time DCB also teamed up with his friend Mr. Frothy, who is an excellent cartoon artist. Together they came up with a bunch of their own unique designs and DCB put together an early version of this website to sell the new swag. The shirts would sell a bit here and there, but again these were mostly purchased by online friends. Not enough work for DCB to quit his day job or anything like that. But as time went on, and just like that Faberge shampoo commercial from years back, these friends would tell their friends, and those friends would tell their friends and so on and so on and so on... Pretty soon DCB and his li'l company were starting to get some online recognition and some semi-steady business.

The jobs trickled in here and there, but it wasn't really until DCB got his wife, Drea, interested in the business that it really started to pick up. Drea would spend a lot of her time figuring out how to promote the site and business so that more people would know about MIAD. She did an excellent job in getting the name out there by starting ad campaigns with Google and other online search engines and directory companies. She also took over the customer service end of things too, as she was better at this than DCB was. This way, too, DCB could concentrate more of his focus on the graphical end of things.

Soon, they were getting larger jobs from all over the country, and sometimes from outside of the country. Business was a'poppin'. DCB did some more redesigning of the website to make it as user friendly and memorable as possible. One thing he had noticed while researching other silk screener's sites is that the sites were VERY boring. His philosophy is that if you are a place specializing in graphic design, your website should really reflect that too. DCB hates to use stock clip art and photos or website templates. Almost all the graphics you see on this site were personally found by DCB in various vintage publications and elsewhere then scanned, cleaned up and altered to be usable for the site. He never gets stuff from a "catalog of clipart" (yuck).

He also wanted the customer to get an instant price quote - this was a VERY important key to the site. He knew that a customer didn't wanna dink around with emailing or calling a company to see how much the order would cost - the customer wanted to know NOW how much it would cost, so s/he could decide right then and there if it was the best place to go with. This seemed like such a basic idea to DCB that he set out to make the easiest and quickest price quoter he could come up with.

Customers will often comment to us on how much they love the website or how great our prices or helpful our customer service is. We really pride ourselves on this. We want nothing more than the customer to be happy with their order. If ever they are not, we will do whatever it takes to remedy this.
